Sitar Recital by
Partha Sarathi Chatterjee

Partha Sarathi Chatterjee is known for his unique style on the sitar that perfectly captures the vocal gayaki ang, exemplified by the evocative fluidity of his 4-scale alaap, balanced in equal parts with a supreme command of a contrasting vibrant staccato and rhythmic overtures. With his extensive learning in the varied styles from the Senia-Maihar Gharana and the Etawah or Imdadkhani Gharana and influences of the Kasur-Patiyala style, Partha Sarathi Chatterjee has integrated unique aesthetics in his Sitar presentations.

Partha Sarathi Chatterjee begins this concert by saying, as he always says, that he owes his music to his gurus. This concert is nothing short of a feast for the connoisseurs as Partha Ji first enthralls us with the late-night raag, Kausi Kanada, aalap, jod, and jhala, followed by a gat in vilambit teen taal followed by yet another late-night raag with a meditative melody, Raag Darbari Kanada.

Later, Partha Ji presents one of the highlights of this concert: a bandish in vilambit drut ek taal popularly sung by the great maestro, the Late Ustad Amir Khan Sahab, followed by yet another unique raag, Suha Sughrai.

A senior disciple of Pandit Sankha Chatterjee, the very talented Subhajyoti Guha, accompanies on Tabla for this concert.

Partha Sarathi Chatterjee presents Raag Deepavali in the second part of this concert to mark the festival of lights.
