OR

Sitar Recital by
Shakir Khan

Shakir Khan, one of the most talented young sitar players of the Etawah Gharana, is closely following the footsteps of his illustrious father and guru, the legendary sitar maestro Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan. Shakir is blessed with the influence of great maestros from the Sitar’s first family and represents the eighth generation of this rich musical legacy.

Shakir Ji’s sitar performances are truly enchanting as they exude the rich traditional heritage and artistic nuances of the Etawah Gharana. His musical voice and detailed understanding of rhythm and melody never fail to win the hearts of his audiences.

Sangeet Sabha has had the honour and privilege of featuring the incredible talent of Shakir Ji on multiple occasions. We are thrilled to announce a series of three exclusive concerts featuring this young maestro. Each concert promises to be a unique experience, showcasing the grandeur of musical talent presented by these artists. As ambassadors of Indian Classical Music, these young musicians are captivating audiences worldwide, shining a light on our rich cultural heritage.

The first concert will feature Raag Raageshree in a unique jugalbandi with Sitar and Violin in the first half, followed by a composition in Raag Desh in the second part. Shri Tejas Upadhye will join on Violin, Shakir Ji on Sitar, and Shri Nilesh Ranadive on Tabla.

Raageshree is considered the ‘Queen of Ragas’ due to its playful mood and the charismatic notes of the Khamaaj Thaat. The Sitar and Violin will beautifully take us through the enchanting journey of expression of this immensely popular raag.

Tejas Upadhye comes from a family with an excellent background in Indian classical music, and we had the privilege to host his illustrious father and great violin artist Pandit Atul Kumar Upadhye.

Shri Nilesh Ranadive, a talented disciple of Pandit Suresh Talwalkar ji, will accompany on Tabla for this concert. Nilesh has not only given numerous performances accompanying stalwart artists from Indian Classical Music, but he has also collaborated with musicians from other genres, such as Jazz and fusion.

Featuring Artists:
Shakir Khan (Sitar)
