Sandip Chatterjee is a disciple of Santoor maestro Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya and vocal maestro Padma Bhushan Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty. A gifted and accomplished Santoor player of our times, Sandip is proudly taking forward the legacies of the two esteemed Gharanas viz. Maihar and Patiala simultaneously. Sandip Chatterjee is known for his distinctive style of playing the Santoor with enchanting strokes over the strings. He uses his left hand to lift the strings (Plucking Chikari) to play the Alap, Jod, Jhalla, part of the bandish (Gat) thereby creating a marvelous resonance.

Sandip has performed in many prestigious music festivals and concerts all over the world. He has also collaborated with many musicians from Germany, Australia, Italy, etc. across genres such as Jazz, Rock, New Age, Contemporary, and Fusion. Sandip has over 20 albums to his credit. He has also played for many popular music directors and composers from India like Salil Chowdhury, A. R. Rahman, Jatin-Lalit, Rabindra Jain, to name a few.

Sandip has been bestowed with many awards and accolades like ‘President of India Award’, ‘Jadubhatta Award’, ‘Sangeeth Ratna Award’, ‘Abhinaba Kala Sanman’ and ‘Howrah Ratna Award’.

To make these Santoor concerts more enthralling, another talented artist, Subhajyoti Guha, will be accompanying on Tabla. Although he holds a Master’s Degree in Applied Mathematics from Jadavpur University, Subhajyoti is following his passion and dream to perform and preach the timeless treasure of Indian Classical Music, the world over.

A senior disciple of Pandit Sankha Chatterjee, Subhajyoti has received the ‘President’s Award’ and is a Grade A Tabla artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. He has performed across the globe and has also collaborated with many jazz musicians from the USA and Canada. He has formed his own Raga Fusion Band in Kolkata called ‘Avartan Ensemble’. He has been teaching young musicians from the USA, Canada, China, and India through his music school, ‘Avartan School of Rhythm’.
